Thank Goodness, Manny Decides to run……

….And do gym work for his upcoming fight instead of running for congress this coming election.

Wakee Salud and Lito Atienza, 2 of the closest person to the champ was able to convince him not to run for public office.

Thank you Manny for giving in to the clamor of most of our countrymen for you not to run for public office.  We might give you a second look on the next election but if you really want to help our people, I would suggest to help via the private sector instead.

News: Apple and Cisco settles dispute over the Iphone Name

Category: reviews — blogger @ 2:13 am

Finally, Apple and Cisco has settled their dispute with regards to the use of the IPhone name:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/biztech/02/22/cisco.apple.ap/index.html

As per the article, Apple can use the name IPhone for their new multimedia device in exchange for “interoperability” of both companies’ devices.

A win-win situation where the true winners are the consumers :)

My Mac Family

Category: raves,reviews — blogger @ 7:37 am

They said that once you switch to Mac, you will never go back.  It’s true.  I don’t know why but I made the switch 2 years ago.  Maybe the challenge of learning a new OS did it for me.  On the other hand, it was a smooth transition from a PC to a Mac.  Ipod saved me from boredom on long trips.  These and more of the positive sides on these apple products:

My Ipod Video

Ipod Video
Bought this product 2 years ago.  At first, it is difficult to get videos that are compatible with this gadget but once you get the hang of it, it is easy to use.  Converting movies to mp4 format is tricky.  I have tried quicktime pro, sony vegas, and xilisoft, the latter is the one that i’m constantly using.  converting from any video format to avi takes around an hour using my windows pc (athlon 1.4 256MB RAM).  syncing these videos are done using my desktop, which will be discussed later.  My Ipod is in mac format, and have no intention of making it windows compatible.  It has always been a must to bring this gadget to long trips to fight boredom.  Battery life isn’t that long though, for I can only watch 1 movie on a long trip.  But you can listen to an hour’s worth of songs after that.  I have a couple of photos on my Ipod but that’s just a bonus because i don’t plan to make this a photo storage gadget.

My Mac Mini

Mac Mini

Desktop to a new level, that is what MacMini brings to the table.  The most basic of the mac desktops, but definitely not the least.  The last of the G4s manufactured, My Mac Mini can outperform even the family desktop that runs on windows.  Out of the box, I just installed a couple of programs for ftp (transmit),   cd burning (simply burns), p2p software (limewire) and chat software (YM, ICQ).  Look at the specs of this gadget in its website and see all the numbers it brings but my most favorite stat on this server is 0 – zero crashes after 2 years of extensive use.  This is the only machine that I ever used that ran 3 days straight without rebooting (and access it remotely via vnc).  Try it on a windows platform and it will either crash or slow down after x amount of days.

 Macbook core 2 duo

macbook core 2 duo

My latest gadget is the  macbook core 2 duo.  After 6 months or so looking for the perfect laptop for me, I ended up getting a Mac for a laptop.  And why not?  It was very useful for me.  open it up and as it’s slogan says, “it just works” .  I never have to set up wireless internet, it automatically detects it.  capture your moment with your loved ones with Photo Booth, and make cool slide shows with Iphoto in just minutes.  What I particularly like about macs in general is that they both have terminals, like linux console.  I haven’t explored bootcamp (hey i paid for a mac, why switch back to windows).   a built in bluetooth keeps my phone free of multimedia files.

I won’t say that I wont switch back to windows.  But compare it with the vista that just came out, Mac still rules.  No more looking for drivers, no expensive hardware.  Yes, macs are expensive but once you buy a mac, you never have to download drivers, almost all softwares that you use in windows have their mac counterpart.  I don’t have to buy additional softwares for various applications and you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues.  Uninstall a program that you don’t want to use anymore?  Simply drag the program to the trash can and that’s it.

Still not convinced?  check this out http://www.apple.com/getamac/

An Appeal to Manny Pacquiao

Category: rants — blogger @ 6:30 pm

Manny,

You have been the toast of the country for years now.  I mean, man it’s obvious: billboards, endorsements, interviews….name it, you’ve done it.  Everyone would move heaven and earth just to shake your hand.  You have taken your sport to the next level.  You are even mentioned as the best pound for pound fighter by critics abroad.  Everything you do seem right on everybody’s mind.  Your opinions matter, any appearance of yours would bring ratings off the roof.

You have earned millions…more than what every executive here in the country can earn during their lifetime (with the exception of 2 to 3 letter surnames or hispanic sounding ones).  A mansion, a lifetime contract with a beverage giant.  There is no commercial block that don’t have you on it.  Even turned down a commercial shoot with a shoe company with Kobe Bryant. You have your own nike apparel which puts you in the same breath as tiger woods.  And the list goes on and on.  You are the most recognizable athlete in our country right now.

So why mess up when you have everything within your reach.

I am not talking about your nightlife, who you hangs out with, or what you do with what you have.   I am talking about you thinking about putting your hat in the political arena.  Who the hell advised you to even think about it?  I know you have lots of advisers and whoever brought that idea up to you and actually advised you to seriously consider it.  I am not undermining your capabilities as a leader, but it’s simply not your cup of tea.  They are just after your popularity and your money, not to mention their intention of running with you on the same party and boosting their chances to win.

Remember the Big J?

Let me refresh your memory.  He’s a sports Icon, just like you.  He made Ginebra the People’s team.  Everywhere he goes, he is recognized, just like you.  He has the same charisma as what you have right now.  Just like you, everything he does is enjoyed by the crowd, good or bad.  Everybody has a Jaworski experience, whether they saw it on TV or in real life.  Every time he steps on the court, the crowd is electrified.

Until he ran for the senate.

It was a given that he will win.  And he did.  Once in the office, what did he do?  I’m not saying he did not do anything good, but he didn’t do enough to win back even half of the Ginebra diehards that voted for him (he lost the next election).  I don’t know what he is doing right now, but in my mind I wished he didn’t run for the senate (i can still remember the edsa 2 incident).  He should have just tried to be more effective by getting a post in any sports governing body our country has and for sure he will be good in it.

Athletes like you are most needed out of the government offices.  Don’t let yourself be used by greedy politicians who are just there for your fame and money.     I would rather have you dance for that videoke commercial than have you dance for votes.
