Two more rejoinders to the Earth, Wind & Fire minor ‘issue’

I am Earth, Wind & Fire’s publicist and recently saw your article on-line in The Philippine STAR regarding Al McKay’s revue group “The Experience” (which did a series of shows in the Philippines last week).

Earth, Wind & Fire is certainly honored that Mr. McKay has put together a cover band and revue as a tribute to the great music of Earth, Wind & Fire. They are just as honored when the group is paid a tribute by a high school or college band that often plays EWF hits at their sporting events.

Earth, Wind & Fire continually tours to sold-out audiences around the world, most recently coming off a South American tour in which EWF played numerous sold out engagements to audiences exceeding 20,000 in Chile and Brazil alone, with their extraordinary show sending fans into a frenzy.

EWF is currently on tour in Europe playing to thousands of fans in Germany and to over 30,000 people at a stadium in Amsterdam.

The “EWF Experience” band member quoted in The Philippine STAR as to the real EWF band lip-synching in concert is unfounded. EWF is an example of pure quality and professionalism.
We look forward to you seeing EWF live in concert someday to experience why Earth, Wind & Fire is the legendary band and certainly is the reason that Mr. McKay is paying tribute to them with his cover band revue.

Reading the article, it appears to be that the one that performed here in Manila is NOT the original Earth Wind and Fire! Imagine being robbed of your hard earned money to watch somebody who you didn’t pay to watch. This is alarming because this may happen in real life. Let’s say there is one group having a faction not liking the current policy, running away and creating their own group and stealing the name altogether. They may end up using the name in bad faith. Earth Wind and Fire is known as a group, i don’t even know the name of the band members but I know that the band themselves are one heck of a performer. Think of some members of McDonald’s board members running away and then claim they are McDonald’s also competing against the very same McDonalds that people know. What if you as an individual earned honor you truly deserved and worked hard for and then someone steps in claiming that the very name you are using is not yours and he/she has to take it. These things might sound crazy but it really does happen. The most common incidents of these come from social networking sites.

If only people knows the true meaning of respect.

Have you ever felt that no one remembers your special day?  Yeah for sure the people that you are with at the very time of your birthday will remember, but those who aren’t there…..have you felt they have forgotten your birthday?

Yes it sucks, really sucks big time.  Yeah some people remember, some don’t.  Some respect your special day and some don’t.  Especially when you are used to celebrating the day with your family, friends, loved ones and greetings from some of your acquaintances.

The day has passed, and it’s almost night time, there’s something inside you that expects that people will somewhat remember your day, but they didn’t.  Makes your special day kind of ordinary, which makes you think your friends are just there when everything is cool, when there are no problems, and you have money to throw at….

You checked your phone, still no messages…makes you want to cry.  Frustration sets in so you powered your phone off, but then, you told yourself, no need to ruin your day.  There are still a few hours left before your special day is gone.  why sulk when you can be happy for the very reason that it is your day, your moment, which makes it special.

Congratulate yourself for being talking yourself out of being blue, and eventually opening your phone.  Oh crap! now the messages are coming in, and they are really making your phone insane.  One message after another, giving birthday greetings as early morning and as late as 10 minutes ago.  And so you thought you were forgotten?

Lesson for the day:  reboot your phone on your birthday and give yourself a spank for ranting )

Sometimes I would like to write about my frustrations, this is my blog in the first place. But everytime I am tempted to write about it, it seems that something is holding me back. First off, the PC I was using was logged, not hacked but logged. Okay it was an office PC but I write stuffs after work and rarely touch a computer (unless it is my laptop and it is an emergency) at home. Second, i’m really very tired after a week’s work and have a basketball game the next day, making my weekends busier than my weekdays.

I will try to write more and feature more stories in the next few days, I hope some people would catch interest on visiting this page and I promise not to overdo this. No i’m not going to make a profit out of this, this will just be my plain rants, raves and reviews page

I have noticed that a lot of times, where some people who are upset to blue collar workers such as guards, waiters, and drivers, complain in English.  Is it because they won’t be able to reply back or will just agree with what upset people are ranting about?  People doing this just shows how arrogant they are, that they can be above the law when they speak in a foreign language.  I can’t help but pity those skilled workers who are just doing their assigned tasks.

Speaking a foreign language in these situations is not a sign of an educated person.  Don’t look down on somebody else because they are doing their job, respect them and you will be rewarded just like us, who got a complementary potato salad and nachos in the end

They are already out with a bunch of players, Chris Mihm (when are you going to play bro?), Luke Walton (having a career year), Vladimir Radmanovic (nice mini vacation huh?), Ronny Turiaf (injured in their last game but will probably play hobbled), Kwame Brown (came back from injury but not 100% yet). Did i miss someone? Oh, did I ever mentioned that Zen Master Phil has his hip corrected during the off season?

Not even a good GM can turn the Lakers from the misery they have right now. But who’s blaming them? it’s natural for injuries to happen but for them to go down like flies being swatted? There must be a conspiracy against my favorite team LOL.

Anyway, I just hope the team can hold on to a playoff spot and pray that help will come by that time (Pip are you listening?). If they win the championship this year, Imagine how sweet it will be for the guys in purple and gold.

I was like “wtf, I just want to watch basketball, nothing else.” It’s not that i’m not aware of what’s happening to him, everybody here knows that, to the point where I don’t know if everybody remembered EDSA last week when everybody is glued to those showbiz talk shows. Much as I tried to concentrate on watching the game, I can’t help but notice the commentators mention his name, and the cameraman look for James Yap posters on the sideline.

James Yap the basketball player is not your ordinary baller. First off, he is the first, if not the only college player who endorsed converse basketball shoes when everybody was wearing their nike and adidas. Second, he’s a UE player in the mold of an Allan Caidic. He and Ritualo are two of the purest shooters in the PBA today. I stated this because this is how he should be described on the court, controversy or no controversy. Yes his wife is famous and they are in a middle of a problem, but I think it is fair to call the game as it is.

I had enough of these commentators already. I might as well try catching soccer on cable. Ciao

Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.

Longer explanation: This morning we received a note to our security mailing address about unusual and highly exploitable code in WordPress. The issue was investigated, and it appeared that the 2.1.1 download had been modified from its original code. We took the website down immediately to investigate what happened.

It was determined that a cracker had gained user-level access to one of the servers that powers wordpress.org, and had used that access to modify the download file. We have locked down that server for further forensics, but at this time it appears that the 2.1.1 download was the only thing touched by the attack. They modified two files in WP to include code that would allow for remote PHP execution.

This is the kind of thing you pray never happens, but it did and now we’re dealing with it as best we can. Although not all downloads of 2.1.1 were affected, we’re declaring the entire version dangerous and have released a new version 2.1.2 that includes minor updates and entirely verified files. We are also taking lots of measures to ensure something like this can’t happen again, not the least of which is minutely external verification of the download package so we’ll know immediately if something goes wrong for any reason.

Finally, we reset passwords for a number of users with SVN and other access, so you may need to reset your password on the forums before you can login again.

WordPress has immediately released wordpress 2.1.2 to fix the issue

Let us give a head’s up to the wordpress people, who have fixed the issue as fast as possible.  Let us do our part by doing the necessary.

You have been the toast of the country for years now.  I mean, man it’s obvious: billboards, endorsements, interviews….name it, you’ve done it.  Everyone would move heaven and earth just to shake your hand.  You have taken your sport to the next level.  You are even mentioned as the best pound for pound fighter by critics abroad.  Everything you do seem right on everybody’s mind.  Your opinions matter, any appearance of yours would bring ratings off the roof.

You have earned millions…more than what every executive here in the country can earn during their lifetime (with the exception of 2 to 3 letter surnames or hispanic sounding ones).  A mansion, a lifetime contract with a beverage giant.  There is no commercial block that don’t have you on it.  Even turned down a commercial shoot with a shoe company with Kobe Bryant. You have your own nike apparel which puts you in the same breath as tiger woods.  And the list goes on and on.  You are the most recognizable athlete in our country right now.

So why mess up when you have everything within your reach.

I am not talking about your nightlife, who you hangs out with, or what you do with what you have.   I am talking about you thinking about putting your hat in the political arena.  Who the hell advised you to even think about it?  I know you have lots of advisers and whoever brought that idea up to you and actually advised you to seriously consider it.  I am not undermining your capabilities as a leader, but it’s simply not your cup of tea.  They are just after your popularity and your money, not to mention their intention of running with you on the same party and boosting their chances to win.

Remember the Big J?

Let me refresh your memory.  He’s a sports Icon, just like you.  He made Ginebra the People’s team.  Everywhere he goes, he is recognized, just like you.  He has the same charisma as what you have right now.  Just like you, everything he does is enjoyed by the crowd, good or bad.  Everybody has a Jaworski experience, whether they saw it on TV or in real life.  Every time he steps on the court, the crowd is electrified.

Until he ran for the senate.

It was a given that he will win.  And he did.  Once in the office, what did he do?  I’m not saying he did not do anything good, but he didn’t do enough to win back even half of the Ginebra diehards that voted for him (he lost the next election).  I don’t know what he is doing right now, but in my mind I wished he didn’t run for the senate (i can still remember the edsa 2 incident).  He should have just tried to be more effective by getting a post in any sports governing body our country has and for sure he will be good in it.

Athletes like you are most needed out of the government offices.  Don’t let yourself be used by greedy politicians who are just there for your fame and money.     I would rather have you dance for that videoke commercial than have you dance for votes.
